The Province of Buenos Aires invites citizens and companies to design its climate plan until 2030: how to participate

The Ministry of Environment of the Province of Buenos Aires launched a public consultation to enrich its climate plan with contributions from citizens and companies.

The call seeks to strengthen the Provincial Response Plan to Climate Change, with a horizon in 2030.

The initiative represents an opportunity for Buenos Aires society to actively participate in the construction of environmental policies.

The climate plan of Buenos Aires proposes a productive development with low emissions, territorially balanced and socially just.

The two ways of citizen participation in the Buenos Aires climate plan

The public consultation is divided into two differentiated instances. The first is aimed at the Buenos Aires productive sector, where companies and organizations can share diagnoses on climate risks they currently face.

The Ministry invites to understand the barriers and needs to adapt to climate change.

It also requests information on mitigation strategies that companies already implement in their daily operations.

The second way calls on the general public to reflect on their perception of the crisis.

Participants can express how they observe the climate impacts in their environments and what measures they suggest to reduce them.

The consultation is carried out according to the criteria established in articles 20 and 25 of Law 27.520.

The process integrates contributions from local governments, the scientific sector, indigenous communities, and organized civil society.

The deadline to participate in both instances is February 10. The Directorate of Adaptation and Mitigation to Climate Change will record all contributions received during this period.

The Buenos Aires climate plan is still in the participatory process, as explained by the environmental portfolio, and it is possible to add one’s voice through the following link: Public Participation.

These contributions will be considered for the formulation of the final version or for future decisions related to provincial climate action.

The Buenos Aires climate plan towards 2030: a strategic vision

The document seeks to articulate adaptation policies and mitigation in the face of the climate crisis. The year 2030 represents a key milestone in the global environmental agenda since the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2015.

In this way, the proposal of the Buenos Aires climate plan aims to respond to the local realities of the different Buenos Aires municipalities.

In addition, the Ministry guarantees the confidential and anonymous treatment of all information received during the consultation.

In particular, the initiative seeks for the plan to be representative of the diverse perspectives of society.

The objective is to incorporate the social perspective into the formulation of more effective public policies against climate change.

The main areas of consultation include:

  • Climate risk diagnoses in the productive sector
  • Citizen perceptions of environmental impacts
  • Mitigation strategies implemented by companies
  • Barriers and needs for climate adaptation
  • Suggestions to reduce the effects of climate change

The Buenos Aires climate plan represents a provincial effort to build participatory environmental policies.

The public consultation constitutes a fundamental step to achieve a sustainable and inclusive development throughout the Buenos Aires territory.
