The Fundación Boreal promotes a project that transforms plastic caps into eyeglass frames that are resistant, lightweight, and modern, provided free of charge to people who cannot access them. The proposal integrates circular economy, inclusion, and environmental care, demonstrating that an everyday waste can become a concrete tool to improve visual health.
With just 12 or 13 caps, a complete frame is manufactured, making the campaign an example of how a simple gesture can generate a huge impact.
Project Origin
The initiative was born within the Promote Health program, focused on ophthalmological care. In recent years, the Foundation has already donated thousands of eyeglasses to people in vulnerable situations. In 2025, thanks to strategic alliances, it took a step further: it built its own frame factory, integrating recycling, production, and access to health in a sustainable circuit.
“Transforming caps into frames is turning waste into a tool that improves a person’s quality of life,” explains Cristian Mur, Executive Director of Fundación Boreal.
The Recycling Process
The procedure is completely traceable:
- Collection and classification of caps by color.
- Washing and shredding to convert them into raw material.
- Melting and injection into molds to shape the frames.
- Finishing and assembly.
- Placement of lenses in the optical laboratory according to each patient’s prescription.
The result is a finished eyeglass, ready to be delivered for free.

Triple Impact
The campaign generates benefits in three dimensions:
- Environmental: reduces plastic waste and promotes recycling.
- Social: expands access to visual health.
- Economic: boosts local work in the factory, strengthening the value chain.
Education and Citizen Participation
The proposal also fulfills an educational role, bringing the concept of circular economy into everyday life. Families, schools, companies, and institutions can join by collecting caps and bringing them to the designated points or signing up on the website to coordinate delivery.
“We want each person to understand that those caps that are normally discarded can become an essential health input,” emphasize the Foundation.
Open Call
The campaign invites families, educational institutions, organizations, and companies to participate by collecting caps and bringing them to the Foundation’s headquarters in Tucumán, Salta, Mendoza, Santiago del Estero, and Córdoba.
The initiative of Fundación Boreal demonstrates that the circular economy is not just a theoretical concept but a real tool to expand rights, reduce waste, and improve quality of life. Each frame made with plastic caps represents a concrete opportunity for someone who needs to see better to study, work, or develop.
