The ocean is much more than a vast blue expanse. These enormous bodies of water regulate the climate, generate half of the oxygen we breathe, and host an astonishing biodiversity. However, it faces serious threats such as pollution, overfishing, oil exploitation, and unsustainable management of its resources.
To address this crisis, the organization Sin Azul No Hay Verde launched an innovative campaign: La Selección Argentina del Mar, a team of public figures committed to the protection of the Argentine Sea and its importance for life on the planet.
Inspired by the passion that soccer arouses in Argentines, this initiative brings together 11 influencers—actors, athletes, musicians, and influencers—who act as ambassadors of the environmental message. Through this campaign, the goal is to harness the power of the country’s most popular sport to connect more people with the importance of the ocean and mobilize towards its conservation.
Soccer is a reflection of teamwork: no one wins a match alone. Following this logic, each member of La Selección Argentina del Mar plays a key role. Among them, participating in activities such as beach cleanups, educational workshops, talks, and massive events, and promoting the creation of new marine protected areas.

How is La Selección Argentina del Mar composed?
The captain of La Selección Argentina del Mar is Nico Marín, a photographer specialized in the magic of the ocean. His images reveal the beauty and fragility of the Argentine Sea, serving as a visual reminder of what is at stake. Meanwhile, on the campaign’s social media (@seleccionargentinadelmar), the “players” will be introduced, and the progress of this great match for the ocean will be shared.
This initiative aims to achieve more marine protected areas, as currently, only 7.8% of the Argentine ocean is under protection, equivalent to two marine protected areas: Yaganes and Namuncurá-Banco Burdwood. These areas are crucial for the recovery of species and the regeneration of ecosystems. However, it is not enough in the face of the challenges the ocean is facing.
In addition to expanding the network of protected areas, this campaign aims to turn more regions into safe spaces for marine life. This effort requires planning, commitment, and the involvement of many people. Every voice matters to ensure that more marine areas become biodiversity refuges.
