For the optimal enjoyment of the green spaces by neighbors and tourists, a solar charging station was installed in Plaza Mitre.
The plaza, recently completely renovated, is an emblematic place in the city and now has the solar station, this new service that provides hot water and allows to charge electronic devices using renewable energy.
Thousands of people participated in the reopening of the plaza in early January, celebrating with children’s shows, musical groups, and gastronomic offerings.
The municipality formed a team composed of the Directorate of Monument Restoration, the Department of Works and Urban Planning, the Urban Services Entity (Emsur), the Road and Lighting Entity (Emvial), and Sanitation Works (OSSE) to assist in the execution of the tasks. The work began in mid-September and took just over 100 days.
As part of the works, a solar charging station was installed that has a solar panel that offers hot water for mate and the possibility to charge cell phones sustainably through several USB ports.
How does the system work? The solar cells capture the energy from the sun and the panel combines both technologies.
Visitors to the plaza will be able to fill their thermos with hot water and recharge their cell phones using solar energy.
The works were carried out with the support of Transportes 9 de Julio company, within the framework of the Sponsorship Program for Public Spaces of the city.
Works in Plaza Mitre
Under the supervision of the Executive, a comprehensive redesign of the recreational area was carried out, with the installation of new games and the recovery of others. In addition, an anti-impact playful flooring was installed and urban furniture (benches, drinking fountains, and trash cans) was renovated. Public bathrooms were also improved, a new area for cleaning staff was built, and the restroom for people with disabilities was recovered.
Another feature of the works is the relocation of the dog area, which is now an exclusive space for the stay and entertainment of pets.
