In a operation against wildlife trafficking, 250 talking parrots rescued in Santiago del Estero.

In an operation against the wildlife trafficking carried out jointly by the General Directorate of Forests and Wildlife, National Gendarmerie, park rangers and forest rangers from Monte Quemado and Pirpintos, 250 talking parrots were rescued, which were being transported illegally in a vehicle in the town of El Caburé, Copo Department, Santiago del Estero.

The operation took place when the authorities intercepted three people coming from the province of Chaco.

The specimens of this protected species were seized along with the vehicle used for their transportation. In addition, the corresponding reports were drawn up in accordance with Provincial Law No. 4802 on “Protection of Wildlife”.

Evaluation and rehabilitation of the birds

The birds will be evaluated by specialists to determine their health status and proceed with their reintegration into their natural habitat.

The General Directorate of Forests and Wildlife reminded that the capture, commercialization, or possession of talking parrots is a crime and urged the population to collaborate in the conservation of this species by anonymously reporting any illegal activity to 3854025564.

Santiago del Estero against wildlife trafficking

Santiago del Estero, with its vast forests and unique ecosystems, is home to emblematic species such as the talking parrot (Amazona aestiva). These birds, known for their ability to mimic sounds and words, not only enrich our biodiversity but also play an essential role in ecosystems, contributing to the dispersion of seeds and habitat balance.

However, illegal wildlife trafficking poses a serious threat to their survival. The capture and commercialization of these birds not only endangers the parrots but also creates an ecological imbalance and affects the regeneration of native forests.
