Fires in Patagonia: What are the three active hotspots?

Despite the tireless efforts to stop the fire, the fires in Patagonia continue to advance. Specifically, in Lanín National Park in Neuquén and in Nahuel Huapi in Río Negro they persist.

On the other hand, in El Bolsón, the fires are cooling down, although the work of firefighters and brigades continues. This Sunday in Chubut, a forest fire also started in Trevelin, spreading towards Esquel.

Fires in Patagonia: the situation

So far, the wildfires have devastated at least 37 thousand hectares in the provinces of Río Negro, Chubut, and Neuquén, deeply affecting local communities.

The latest fire in Trevelin originated near Provincial Route No. 34 in an area known as “Huella de los Rifleros.” Firefighters, brigades from the Forest Fire Prevention and Fighting Service (SPLIF) of Trevelin, Esquel, Lago Rosario, and fighters from Los Alerces National Park are working in the area.

More than 100 people are working to contain the flames, equipped with 21 trucks, 4 fire engines, four tanker trucks, a grader, a bulldozer, a truck, and two firefighting planes provided by the National Fire Management Service.

Authorities have made a call to the population to avoid circulating in the areas near the fire, which is now spreading towards Route 40. The affected area has not yet been determined.

The other active fires

The other fires in Chubut in El Pedregoso, 55 hectares, and in Epuyén, 3500 hectares, are contained. Although the one in Atilio Viglione is still active (around 5 thousand ha.).
