The Protected Natural Area “La Siempre Viva”, located in Chipiscú (Ayacucho department), will be the epicenter of scientific and flora and fauna conservation actions for the protection of the ecosystems of San Luis.

It is an activity organized in collaboration with the Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development, Aves Argentinas, and the Alliance of the Grasslands.

Week dedicated to biodiversity conservation actions

The proposal will take place from March 2 to 7. During this week, the focus will be on biodiversity preservation, including an audit on the land, the installation of camera traps for fauna studies, and, as the main event, the release of birds and mammals.

The schedule is part of an ambitious annual operational plan for the protection of native forests and sets the groundwork for the future Green Climate Fund.

The initiative also has the support of Aves Argentinas and the Alliance of the Grasslands, with the participation of renowned specialists, including Stephanie Estergaard Zaldúa and Delfina Ackermann (Alliance of the Grasslands), Rocío Lapido (Yellow Cardinal Project), and Pablo Grilli (Coordinator of the Grasslands Program). Their involvement in the reserve is essential for the continuity of the ANPP as a member of these conservation entities.

Key activities for monitoring and release of fauna

The schedule will include a crucial activity for bird monitoring: bird banding, which will be carried out by professionals from Aves Argentinas before the final release. This action will involve emblematic species such as the Yellow Cardinal, Black-and-chestnut Warblers, White-crested Elaenias, White-bridled Finches, Monjitas, and Siskins, allowing for close monitoring of their fate and assessment of their survival over time.

However, the day will not be limited to the avian world. The release will also include other species, including three terrestrial turtles and two matacos, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to diversity and ecosystem health. The activity, meticulously coordinated with the environmental portfolio, promises to be a natural spectacle where each released species tells a story of resilience and hope.

“La Siempre Viva” stands out for its management and conservation plan. So far, activities have focused on fencing and the distribution of water sources. Additionally, the project has been involved in the non-timber forest products’ utilization for the production of phytotherapeutic products, thus promoting a sustainable and diversified economy.

Located in Chipiscú, in the northern province, the reserve covers 9,658 hectares, with its ecoregion crossed by mountain ranges and basins. It is a conservation initiative compatible with tourism and production, dedicated to environmental education, research, enrichment of native forests, and wildlife observation.
