Argentinian ingenuity: An eco-friendly stove that runs on alcohol

Most read

In a context where the low temperatures of winter and the increase in energy rates are increasingly felt, a innovative and 100% Argentine proposal is presented as a possible solution. It is an ecological, portable, and affordable stove that operates solely on ethyl alcohol. The invention is the work of Matías Di Tomaso and his father, Gabriel, who decided to change the way Argentine homes are heated without depending on gas or electricity.

The story began in 2017, during the gas price escalation. Faced with unpayable bills, Matías and Gabriel sought an alternative that was sustainable, economical, and safe. Thus, this stove that operates on 96% ethyl alcohol was born, which can be obtained in pharmacies and comes from renewable sources such as sugarcane, molasses, or cereals.

After multiple tests and adjustments, they created an efficient and reliable system. Currently, from their venture Di Tomaso Design, they manufacture two models of alcohol stoves, with different thermal powers according to the household’s needs.

## How does it work?
The operation of the stove is as simple as it is ingenious. It is equipped with special burners that allow regulating the flame intensity and prevent accidental spills. It does not require installation, electrical connection, or maintenance, and can be easily moved thanks to its wheeled design.

Additionally, its use is not limited to winter. During the summer, if citronella oil is added, it can be used as a mosquito repellent, becoming a versatile device for year-round use.

## Available models
– **Stove of 3000 kcal/h**: suitable for heating spaces of up to 30 m².

– **Stove of 4000 kcal/h**: ideal for spaces of up to 40 m².

Both models have a lifespan of over 10 years and do not emit toxic gases or carbon monoxide, making them a safe option for both homes and enclosed spaces without direct ventilation.

## A showroom at home and presence on social media
Despite economic challenges, such as the increase in alcohol prices during the pandemic, the Di Tomaso family kept their project active and even set up a showroom in their backyard, where interested parties can see it in action live.

Currently, they commercialize their products throughout the country and maintain an active presence on social media to answer questions, provide advice, and share the advantages of their invention.

## Why choose an alcohol stove?
– **Ecological**: It operates with a renewable fuel and does not pollute.

– **Economical**: It does not depend on variable gas or electricity rates.

– **Safe**: It does not emit carbon monoxide and does not require special ventilation.

– **Portable**: It can be easily moved between spaces.

– **Versatile**: It can also be used as a repellent in summer.

With creativity and determination, Matías and Gabriel turned a necessity into an opportunity. Their alcohol stove not only represents an alternative to energy crises but also an example of local innovation in the service of comfort and environmental care.

## The global energy shame: 1 in 10 homes cannot be heated as needed
The European Union faces an energy crisis that goes beyond simple resource scarcity. According to data from the European Statistical Office (Eurostat), in 2023, 10.6% of the EU population could not adequately heat their homes. This represents an increase of 1.3 percentage points compared to the previous year.

Especially concerning is the situation in Spain, where 20.8% of the population could not keep their homes warm, making it one of the countries with the highest rates in the European Union. Portugal also records a similar rate, while Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Greece are also among the countries with the highest rates.

But the energy crisis is not exclusive to Europe. In Argentina, the situation is even more critical. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC), in 2022, 35.4% of Argentine households did not have access to electricity or natural gas for heating. This represents a rate more than three times higher than that of the EU.
