Three people were surprised to find jaguar footprints in the Iberá National Park in Corrientes. They found them on a forest trail and took photographs.
The group that came across the animal’s tracks was able to quickly identify it because one of them is a tour guide and the others belong to the CEYDAS NGO.
The jaguar was extinct in the province for over a century, but it was recently reintroduced.
Jaguar footprints found
The entrerriano Mario Martins, along with Román Galván and Nilda Escobar, were amazed when they stumbled upon huge footprints about 10 cm long belonging to the largest feline in America.
The discovery took place along the Lobo Cuá trail in the Iberá National Park in Colonia Carlos Pellegrini.
Martins took out a $500 bill, which features the design and figure of the jaguar, and placed it next to one of the footprints to use it as a size reference.
Galván took the photo and said, “The bill was a casual coincidence.”
New jaguar discovered in Formosa
A new specimen of jaguar in Formosa was captured by trap cameras over the last month, within the framework of the survey project carried out in a key conservation corridor in the Patiño Department.
The confirmation of this news was provided by the Ministry of Production and Environment and the Jaguar Project of the Atlantic Forest Research Center (CeIBA-CONICET). Additionally, a large number of residents and producers collaborated and participated in the project.
As reported by the Undersecretariat of Natural Resources, Planning, and Environmental Quality to the Formosa News Agency (AGENFOR), this jaguar in Formosa record was obtained during the review of the Jaguar Project’s trap cameras, carried out recently. The photographic events correspond to different moments captured between August and November.
This is the fifth jaguar in Formosa registered under this method in the province and the eighth in the Argentine Chaco Region.
