In a European city, they had an original idea to take care of animals during the harsh winter. They installed vending machines for stray cats on the streets.
Because poor nutrition can be deadly in the face of frosts and even during summer heat waves as well. That’s why in Bucharest, Romania, they came up with this alternative that also runs on solar energy.
What are the vending machines for cats like
Cats are easy victims of frost. If they are not well-fed, they can freeze to death in an hour. In an attempt to help the stray animals of Bucharest, vending machines powered by solar energy were installed.
These machines allow residents to also recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans in exchange for food and water for homeless cats.
This is what the vending machines for cats look like.
The initiative aims to provide crucial assistance, especially during the harsh winter months, when street cats are vulnerable to subzero temperatures, and also during summer heat waves. In that case, water becomes vital for their survival.
The project was launched by the Sache Veterinary Association, in collaboration with the Animal Supervision and Protection Authority.
Recycling in exchange for cat food
This offers neighbors an easy and free way to help animals in need. The city’s initiative, funded by the Bucharest City Council, also has the support of a year’s worth of food donated by the international NGO Greater Good Charities.
The vending machines not only provide sustenance for cats but also promote dog adoption, with informative displays encouraging people to adopt stray animals.
They run on solar energy.
Currently, the vending machines are located in three popular parks: Tineretului, Circului, and Floreasca. But the program’s impact is expected to grow.
The original initiative to help stray dogs in Colombia: wine sales
Around the world, ideas emerge to rescue or provide sustenance to homeless dogs and cats. Some even quickly go viral due to their originality.
Recently, the case of a Colombian businesswoman who sells wines to help street dogs became known. The brand is called “Vagabundo Wines“, and it was created by Fadia Badrán, an industrial designer and manager of the Madero Group.
Badrán had the idea to launch a wine that would recall the anonymous stories of animals living on the streets and, at the same time, financially support their rescue.

With the help of a photographer, she toured neighborhoods in Cartagena to portray the dogs that inhabit its streets, which would be the protagonists of the unique labels of her wines.
This is how, after the necessary procedures and time, the first bottles of Vagabundo materialized in 2021.
