A serious sewage spill in the Costa Azul neighborhood, in the city of Carlos Paz, in Córdoba, is deeply worrying the residents. It involves hundreds of thousands of liters of substances without any kind of treatment.
The spill occurred on Tuesday morning on the streets of the Costanera of Villa Carlos Paz and ended up entering the already heavily polluted San Roque Lake.
Sewage spill in Carlos Paz: the dangers
The environmental disaster was triggered by a power outage that caused the breakdown of the system that opens and closes the entry and exit of sewage. These reach a pumping unit in that area, from where the material is pumped to the city’s treatment plant.
As soon as the images were released, concern was raised because San Roque supplies drinking water to Córdoba. “We have the authority to carry out the purification process,” said Cristina Barrientos from Aguas Cordobesas, reassuring consumers: “It does not generate any impact due to the small volume it has.”
She also clarified that “the plant is capable of treating this type of waste, but in any case, the liquid is very small.”

Just a couple of weeks ago, the Supreme Court of Justice ruled to reject an appeal filed by Coopi to go to the Supreme Court in opposition to a ruling from the highest court of Córdoba, two years ago, which sided with the municipality to take over the sewage service and remove Coopi from the concession.
In this regard, they announced that they will go to court to file a criminal complaint about what happened.
