A serious accusation from the Pro Eco Ecologist Group and local residents put the Tafí Viejo Municipality on alert: they claim that deforestation is advancing in Tucumán, in a protected area.
Journalist David Correa was among the first to expose the situation with videos and photos that he shared on his social networks.

Daniela Díaz Rudolf, from the municipal environmental management department, provided details about what happened. “Operations took place this weekend on Friday and Saturday based on a report from residents and a civil association,” she said in an interview with FM La Tucumana 95.9.
“The environmental inspection personnel and the general inspection department, two competent areas to address the issue, approached the site and confirmed that there had been deforestation, tree extraction, logging, and soil removal,” emphasized Díaz Rudolf.
The official added that the machinery and those responsible were not found at the site, but the Rural Crimes police and the Provincial Directorate of Flora and Fauna were involved. They are also authorized to penalize those responsible.
“In Tucumán, we have different laws that protect our yungas, our foothills,” explained the official.
“Among them, we have the Native Forest Land Use Law, the environmental law, and especially in 2020, Tafí Viejo was able to enact an environmental code that also penalizes these types of actions,” she clarified.
She indicated that the next steps involve advancing with criminal complaints from the Province. “Since national regulations have been violated. So, we have to address this at the Federal level,” emphasized Díaz Rudolf.
What is known about those responsible
So far, there is no specific information about those responsible. However, Díaz Rudolf mentioned a person with the last name “Moyano” who is the owner of the machinery used in the deforestation process.

These events occur in the midst of a delicate context regarding deforestation. During the first half of the year, in the northern region of the country, 15% more deforestation occurred than in the same period of 2023.

“The situation in the northern region of the country due to deforestation, most of which is illegal, once again alarmed the population after Greenpeace published its semi-annual deforestation report,” they stated in a press release.
“The satellite images taken by the environmental organization demonstrated that the most serious situation occurs in Chaco and Santiago del Estero, and once again called for the penalization of forest destruction,” they added.
