From the Buenos Aires government, the control of the fire that occurred yesterday afternoon in the Punta Lara Reserve, in the part corresponding to the municipality of Berazategui, was addressed and controlled in record time, through the implementation of the action protocol of the Interministerial Coordination Council for Fire Management, composed of the ministries of Security, Environment, and Agricultural Development of the Province.

The fire was detected on Saturday afternoon by rangers from the Ministry of Environment and immediately reported to all relevant provincial areas to activate the action protocol. Nearly 100 people participated, who, with coordinated fieldwork throughout the night and the reinforcement of a Province helicopter with a water bucket, quickly managed to control the fire. The Ministries of Security, Environment, and Agricultural Development; AUBASA, Operational Regional Number 2 which includes 11 volunteer fire stations, the Municipality of Berazategui, and the Red Cross participated in the operation. The increase in temperatures and the weather conditions of this season increase the possibility of fires, such as the one that occurred in the Punta Lara Reserve.

Coordinated work for fire control

In the Province of Buenos Aires, during the administration of Axel Kicillof, measures were promoted such as the regulation of Law No. 14,892 on Fire Management, which creates the Interministerial Coordination Council, composed of the ministries of Environment, Security, and Agricultural Development, aimed at implementing an immediate action mechanism, coordinated among the involved actors and with a comprehensive approach with public policies for prevention, awareness, professional training, strengthening the fire combat system, and restoration of affected territories.

Among them, it stands out the delivery, by the Ministry of Environment, of forest kits, vehicles, clothing, and specific tools for fire combat, Australian tanks, and carrying out multiple training sessions in firebreaks and firefighting; to the rangers of the provincial reserves.

“The vast majority of these fires are due to human activity, which are exacerbated in a context where the environmental crisis does not give respite. Faced with the denial of climate change by the national government, in the Province we are working twice as hard for fire control and prevention to protect our natural common goods and our communities,” stated the Minister of Environment Daniela Vilar.

Due to the meteorological conditions of yesterday and the fire area, it is estimated that it was caused by human action. Therefore, we remind you that:

🚫If you make a fire, do it in authorized areas. Do not lose sight of it and put out the embers.
