Update on the wildfire in Los Manzanos at Nahuel Huapi National Park

The Nahuel Huapi National Park Administration provided an updated report on the wildfire named “Los Manzanos” on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Due to the adverse weather conditions from the previous day, the fire spread towards the northern tip of Lake Martín, reaching an area previously affected by a fire in 2022, where multiple hotspots are recorded. For safety reasons, the trails in the southern and central areas of the protected area have been closed.

At the base camp near Lake Los Manzanos, a team of 46 firefighters began control operations at 6:00 a.m. Efforts are focused on strengthening the firefighting at the rear of the fire and optimizing escape routes to ensure the safety of personnel in case of an emergency. Operations are hindered by the dense smoke and limited visibility, which prevents the use of air assets.

The terrain presents significant challenges due to its rough topography, limited access, and the abundance of combustible material in the forest vegetation. These factors facilitate the spread of the fire and complicate extinguishing efforts.

So far, it is estimated that the affected area covers approximately 1,450 hectares. However, this figure may vary as data is updated, even if there are no changes in fire activity.

Authorities emphasized that no donations are being requested or accepted at this time. If necessary, any requirements will be communicated exclusively through official channels.
