In the midst of the crisis caused by the forest fires in various parts of the country, the Undersecretary of Environment of the Nation, Ana Lamas, resigned. This decision is attributed to “personal reasons” and “exhaustion”.
The decision comes after months in which the agency, now under the authority of the Secretary of Environment, Sports, and Tourism, Daniel Scioli, lost even more resources and functions since Milei took office.
It was reported that the former official submitted her resignation to Chief of Staff Guillermo Francos on Tuesday, who asked her to stay and took 48 hours to accept it.

The area led by Lamas has now become an Undersecretary with the Cabinet reconfiguration carried out by Milei upon assuming the presidency.

The situation has worsened, as in Patagonia, forest fires continue to spread and have already devastated thousands of hectares, even claiming a fatal victim: a resident died, amidst serious material damages.
The main active fires are in the provinces of Río Negro, Neuquén, and Chubut: in El Bolsón, and in the national parks Nahuel Huapi and Lanín.
There are also active fires in the province of Corrientes, where more than 200,000 hectares have already been ravaged by fire in the towns of Curuzú Cuatiá and Mercedes. A 30-year-old teacher also died due to the flames.
In her resignation letter, Lamas states that she carried out her role “with great pride” because, as she wrote, she was able to embrace two of her “causes”: “the ideas of freedom and environmentalism”.

Fernando Jorge Brom is the new Undersecretary of Environment.
Following this resignation, businessman Fernando Jorge Brom will be the new Undersecretary of Environment of the Nation. He already held a meeting with Daniel Scioli during the afternoon at Casa Rosada.
Brom, 67 years old, has an extensive career linked to food companies, including roles as commercial/general manager of Quickfood SA, La Delicia Felipe Fort, Kraft Foods Argentina, and Unilever de Argentina.
Although this appointment has received criticism, the Government highlighted his experience in corporate management and his closeness to different productive sectors of the country.
