Operation in the Yabotí Biosphere Reserve: traps destroyed and poacher captured

Most read

In a significant operation, park rangers from the Central Jungle Operations Group dismantled several feeding grounds, camps, and hides used by poachers and illegal fishermen in the Yabotí Biosphere Reserve (Misiones).

The action took place during patrols to prevent environmental crimes carried out between January 11th and 12th.

Patrols and detection of poachers

These patrols were conducted not only in the Yabotí Biosphere Reserve but also in the Piñalito Provincial Park. During the operation, a hunter moving on a motorcycle was detected.

Upon noticing the presence of the officers, the hunter fled on foot, abandoning his vehicle, which was seized and made available to the Justice.

Impact and relevance

This operation highlights the importance of preventive actions in the protection of natural areas. The collaboration between different protected areas strengthens the commitment to conservation and the fight against illegal hunting and fishing, thus ensuring the preservation of local biodiversity.

Yabotí Biosphere Reserve

The Yabotí Biosphere Reserve is a large protected area that includes public natural reserves, private ones, and those managed by indigenous peoples, where the jungle landscape blends with farms, yerba mate crops, citronella, and the influence of Brazilian culture.

One way to discover the region is by staying in El Soberbio, in jungle inns or lodges that offer excursions and special activities. There are also private natural reserves that provide services and guided tours.

The town of San Pedro, with an emerging tourism development, is the gateway from the north, accessed through dirt roads that cross the jungle. These are rugged routes only for experienced travelers and jungle lovers. Next to San Pedro, you can also visit the Provincial Araucaria Park, which protects a small forest of Araucaria misionera or Paraná pine.
