With the aim of combating the illegal hunting of wildlife and also illegal trade, the Government of the Province of Santa Fe has decided to toughen the planned fines.
Through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, they have updated the penalties for infractions to the wildlife regulations established in Decree-Law No. 4218/58 and ratified by Law No. 4830.
The measure responds to the need to update the values, which had not been modified for 11 years.
Illegal hunting of wildlife: fines increased in Santa Fe
As a result of this initiative, the fine amounts will range between $32,948.30 and $2,745,177.80, according to the Wholesale Price Index System (S.I.P.M).
Additionally, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has been granted the authority to periodically adjust these values, after consulting with the Provincial Institute of Statistics and Censuses (IPEC).
The idea is for the figures to be updated according to the economic context.
Measures to protect biodiversity
The purpose of this update is to strengthen the “exemplary and dissuasive” nature of sanctions against activities such as hunting, illegal possession, and wildlife trade.
“Updating fine amounts not only enhances our ability to penalize infractions, but also sends a clear message: protecting wildlife is a priority,” stated Minister Enrique Estévez.
He also emphasized that “these measures aim to prevent behaviors that threaten our biodiversity and ensure the conservation of ecosystems for future generations.”
With this decision, the province of Santa Fe “reaffirms its commitment to protecting biodiversity, strengthening legal tools” to combat illicit activities.
According to their statement, the update of fines aims not only to punish but also to prevent and raise awareness about the importance of caring for natural resources.
