The Minister of Environment of the Province, Daniela Vilar, launched the program Pampa Azul that will be in charge of the research, monitoring, and conservation of the coast of Buenos Aires Province.

Pampa Azul was a transformative national initiative that was born in 2014 with the objective of putting the maritime issue on the country’s development agenda. This program created the first coordinated framework among ministries, allowing for joint planning and decisions based on national science and technology, that is, a comprehensive approach to managing marine resources. Unfortunately, the national government paralyzed this initiative, but the administration of Governor Axel Kicillof decided to resume and replicate it in the Province of Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires Province is one of the most important territories for maritime development at all levels. In a political scenario of defunding and the elimination of strategic policies at the national level, the Ministry of Environment takes on the commitment to resume this initiative from the provincial territory, replicate this successful experience of the management of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and put it at the service of Buenos Aires’ sovereignty,” highlighted Daniela Vilar in her statements.

The province of Buenos Aires has approximately 1,200 kilometers of coastline that stretches from the Río de la Plata to the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean: an extension that houses a great diversity of natural resources and tourist attractions, as well as productive characteristics that make it one of the territories with the most potential for development.

The main objectives of the Pampa Azul program are:

  • Promote scientific knowledge for the conservation and management of coastal common goods.
  • Develop technologies that allow harnessing marine energies.
  • Address specific and comprehensive public policies in the face of coastal erosion.
  • Implement strategies to reduce coastal waste.
  • Promote awareness of maritime issues through Environmental Education.
  • Enhance nature tourism.
