The recovery of high-altitude forests in the mountain ranges of Córdoba is progressing through specific actions of reforestation, biodiversity conservation, and environmental education. Among them is the collection, conditioning, and cleaning of tabaquillo seeds (Polylepis australis), as they play a key role, being the basis for the production of seedlings that will later be transplanted in strategic areas.
In this context, the NGO Acción Ambiental, through its program Semillero Verde, invites you to participate in a seed cleaning day that will take place on Monday, April 14th, from 2 to 6 PM, at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the National University of Córdoba, in Ciudad Universitaria.
During the meeting, seeds collected in February of this year will be cleaned, and a recognition tour of the native plants in the faculty’s nursery will be carried out. Participation is free and requires prior registration through the organization’s official website.
Cleaning seeds to protect the environment
This activity is part of a set of reforestation projects carried out in key areas of the Sierras Grandes, such as the Quebrada del Condorito National Park, Traslasierra, and Cerro Champaquí. To coordinate efforts, the Provincial Environmental Secretariat created the “Mesa del Tabaquillo”, a joint working space with various organizations dedicated to the conservation of high-altitude forests.
The tabaquillo is a native species fundamental for the ecological balance of the mountain range, as it forms unique forests that protect soils, regulate watercourses, and host a great biodiversity. Its recovery is vital to face climate change and preserve the mountain ecosystems of Córdoba.

Córdoba: how the project with schools to plant native trees works
The Industrial Park of San Francisco, in San Justo, Córdoba province, launched a project to work with primary schools and plant native trees. It is called “Sembrando mi Huella” (Planting My Print), and aims to raise awareness among children about environmental care through germination of local flora.
The initiative is carried out in collaboration with educational institutions, the municipality, the Penitentiary Service, and local companies. Another aspect of the program also promotes the circular economy through plastic recycling. The program is aimed at the second cycle of primary level in public and private schools.
