Chile on the road to electromobility with the first electric firetruck

Most read

Chile took a crucial step in the emergency transportation by presenting the first electric fire truck in Latin America. While electromobility is advancing worldwide, this type of technology has not yet been tested in Argentina.

Sustainability and emission reduction, which are currently global priorities, and the electrification of emergency vehicles are key in this transition. Ambulances, police patrols, and fire trucks are essential for public safety, so their modernization not only reduces the carbon footprint but also improves operational efficiency.

## A Milestone in Latin America
The Santiago Fire Department recently presented its new electric unit, the Rosenbauer RTX, a state-of-the-art model manufactured in Austria. Its arrival in Chile responds to the need to integrate clean technologies in the public sector and sets a precedent for the entire region.

Among its features are:
– **4×4 traction** and a 50% smaller turning radius than a conventional fire truck.
– **Pumping capacity of 5600 liters of water per minute**.
– Silent operation and higher energy efficiency.

The vehicle was transported from Belgium and adds to Chile’s strategy to move towards a carbon-neutral future.

### A Commitment to Sustainability
The Chilean government has reinforced its commitment to electromobility with specific goals: by 2035, all new vehicles must be zero emissions, and by 2050, the country expects to achieve carbon neutrality.

“The climate change is a very real and serious threat, and combating it is not a whim,” stated the Minister of Transport of Chile, Juan Carlos Muñoz, during the truck’s presentation.

This progress has been possible thanks to the collaboration between the Santiago Fire Department, the company SQM Litio, and the energy company Copec. Gabriel Huerta, Fire Superintendent, highlighted that after three years of work, the new unit finally joins active service in the Metropolitan Region and can be used in other areas of the country.

## Argentina Follows the Example
While Chile takes this innovative step, Argentina is working on its own energy transition. Companies like Santander have shown interest in joining similar ecological projects, although concrete implementation is still pending.

With the arrival of its first electric fire truck, Chile positions itself as a leader in the region in electromobility applied to safety and emergency, demonstrating that technology and sustainability can go hand in hand.

## Colombia presented a new ecological boat powered by solar energy
This project aims to meet the needs of riverside communities in Colombia, promoting sustainable solutions for transportation and mobility on the country’s main river arteries.

Among the technical specifications of the boat, its maximum speed of 18 knots, a length of 8.68 meters, and a draft of 0.32 meters stand out, making it ideal for rivers and shallow areas. Additionally, it has a range of 30 to 50 km at an economical speed of 12 knots.

The boat is designed to operate in shallow rivers, making it ideal for basins such as Magdalena, Atrato, Orinoquía, and the Amazon.
