German student creates urban bird shelter, easy to install and without damaging window frames

Most read

A German student has created HAUSHOUSE, a bird shelter in urban areas that adapts to any window frame without damaging it.

Easy to install and maintain thanks to its rotating structure, this birdhouse transforms urban spaces into bird-friendly shelters and addresses critical issues for their survival.

Functionality of the Urban Bird Shelter

HAUSHOUSE addresses two main threats to birds in urban environments:

  • New home in the city: Provides a safe space where birds can nest and rest, especially in urban areas affected by pesticide use and decreasing biodiversity.
  • Protection against domestic cats: Acts as a safe sanctuary, keeping birds out of reach of cats in cities.

Inspiration behind the Project

The design of HAUSHOUSE arose from an academic project in the Product Design career at HfG Schwäbischmünd. The creator, aware of the decline in bird populations, decided to address this issue by designing a product that prioritizes ecological balance.

Mechanism and Design

HAUSHOUSE is based on a simple and functional design:

  • Extendable bar: Adapts to window frames without damaging them, with a wide lateral contact surface.
  • Secure mounting: A receptacle secures the structure to the frame with a screw, and an aluminum rod allows the birdhouse to rotate for easy cleaning.
  • Practical design: Three spherical screws on the back allow for easy opening and cleaning of the birdhouse.

Differentiation and Advantages

HAUSHOUSE stands out for:

  • Universal mounting: Installation on any type of frame, ensuring wide adoption.
  • Attractive and functional design: Balance between aesthetics and utility.
  • Unique protection: Secure shelter combined with a practical design.

Future Plans

The creator acknowledges that the design has room for improvement and seeks to refine the technical and aesthetic details to offer a more advanced version of the product.

Ecological Impact and Sustainability

HAUSHOUSE is not just a bird shelter; it is a reminder that urban spaces can coexist with nature. By protecting birds and promoting their presence in cities, it contributes to biodiversity conservation and promotes sustainability.

In an increasingly environmentally conscious world, initiatives like HAUSHOUSE are crucial for a more balanced and respectful future towards all forms of life.
