The 17th edition of the Provincial Beer Festival in **Godoy Cruz** stood out for its **green initiative**: being the first [100% carbon neutral](https://noticiasambientales.com/compromiso-ambiental/machupicchu-obtuvo-la-certificacion-como-destino-de-turismo-carbono-neutral/).
Within one year, all the **greenhouse gas emissions** generated during the event will be offset through initiatives such as municipal reforestation and the creation of **biological corridors** in collaboration with other departments in the metropolitan area.
Green Initiative and Use of Renewable Energy
Since 2015, data on greenhouse gas emissions generated by the festival has been recorded. In 2024, under the management of Mayor Diego Costarelli, it was decided that the event would be carbon neutral, offsetting a total of 2,438.9 tons of CO2.
“We measured the **energy generated**, the modes of transportation used, the waste generated, and the consumption of food and beverages. On this occasion, the use of conventional energy decreased by 5 points compared to last year thanks to the [installation of renewable energy](https://noticiasambientales.com/energia/energia-renovable-cuales-son-los-paises-que-ya-cuentan-con-ella/). Additionally, the value of waste also halved compared to 2023, thanks to the separation plant and the Cooperativa Los Triunfadores,” highlighted Costarelli.
Commitment to Climate Change
Costarelli emphasized that the Beer Festival edition not only celebrated **music and gastronomy**, but also led by example in the fight against climate change: “We are one of the few municipalities in the province with a **Local Climate Action Plan**. This sustainable approach consolidates its position as an event committed to the present and future of the environment.”
Total Emission Neutralization Program
The **total emission neutralization program** includes tree planting, one of the most powerful actions to combat climate change. In 2025, around 4,000 trees will be planted in the metropolitan region, and sectors of the Piedemonte will be reforested with **native species**.
Additionally, **urban agriculture programs** will be strengthened, emphasizing awareness of **food loss and waste**, and vegetable gardens will be created in nursery gardens and social and sports centers.
As part of the plan, the Wellness Program will be implemented, promoting conscious consumption of food alongside sports and mental health. Finally, there will be a strong **investment in clean energy**.
