Novergy launched: a new paradigm in the recovery and valorization of used hydrocarbons to protect the environment.

The new company positions itself as a new paradigm in the circular economy by revaluing used hydrocarbons and arises from the alliance between the groups Petroandina and Quimiguay, specialized in the integral treatment of industrial waste.

One single liter of used lubricant oil (ALU) disposed of in the sea contaminates 1 million liters of water and takes between 10 to 15 years to completely degrade. To counteract this reality is the birth of Novergy, a new company that guarantees the efficient recovery of these used hydrocarbons, transforming and revaluing them into lubricant bases, light fuels, and specialized products for reuse by the industry. In this way, it reduces carbon emissions from its products by 80%, minimizing its environmental impact.

## Its launch arises as a product of an alliance between the groups

Petroandina and Quimiguay, with over 25 years of experience in the integral treatment of industrial waste. The objective is to provide national coverage and an efficient and strategic systemic response to the issue of what to do with this type of waste, positioning itself as a new paradigm of the circular economy.

## Lubricating oil is part of the daily and productive life of a country

It is used by the industry in general, automobiles, trucks, buses, agricultural machinery, maritime transport, among others. This year it is estimated that 44 billion liters will be produced worldwide, and it is projected that by 2029 this number will increase to 52 billion as a consequence of the increase in the automotive fleet, among other reasons.

In the case of Argentina, the size of the Argentine lubricant market in the automotive segment is currently estimated at 184.35 million liters and is expected to reach 199.20 million liters in 2026.

Faced with this scenario and in a global context where the need to think sustainable actions to meet market demand prevails, Novergy is born, within the framework of the circular economy, collecting and regenerating ALU, turning it into high-quality fuels and lubricant bases. The process allows for the indefinite reuse of oils, avoiding waste and maximizing their lifespan.

The regeneration of used oil has a significantly lower environmental impact than the process of refining crude oil, which translates into clear numbers: 80% less CO2 emissions; 90% less acidification, and 88% fewer fine particles. While 140 liters of crude oil are required to obtain one liter of refined base, only 3 liters of ALU are needed to produce one liter of re-refined lubricant base.

Additionally, its use allows for significant energy savings compared to virgin bases, as the re-refining process consumes up to 85% less energy.

The presentation of Novergy took place on Thursday, May 8, in the city of Buenos Aires, at Abra Cultural, and was attended by various industry players, with a panel made up of specialists and leaders of the company who analyzed its impact on the sector and society.

“We are not only celebrating the start of a new company today, but also the commitment to transform the way we understand and use energy,” highlighted Novergy’s general manager, Ramiro Ferrari, accompanied by the executive directors of Petroandina Group and Quimiguay Group, Facundo Rodríguez and Pablo Vicino.

Respectively, Ferrari emphasized: “We believe that Novergy is a concrete opportunity to build a cleaner future, guided by the values of the circular economy.”

Engineer Osvaldo Belardinelli presented data on the environmental benefits and technical aspects of the revaluation process, emphasizing innovation and the high quality of its products.

“The process efficiency is very high: we recover 100%. To understand the impact, 140 liters of crude oil are needed to obtain 2 liters of lubricant bases, but only 3 liters of used oil are needed to produce the same high-quality amount. This reduces CO₂ emissions by 80% and turns a finite resource into a continuous cycle.”

As a conclusion, Mayra Coluccio, specialist in Circular Economy and Climate Action, highlighted that “Novergy’s proposal is truly a great change and contribution to the Circular Economy, aiming to stop managing waste and start managing resources.”
