Blue Patagonia: Camarones to host the Third Coastal Hiking Encounter in Chubut

On the 12th and 13th of April, the picturesque town of Camarones, in the province of Chubut, will be the setting for the Third Coastal Hiking Encounter of Blue Patagonia, a free proposal inviting you to discover some of the most astonishing landscapes of the Patagonian coast.

The activity, open to the general public with prior registration, will explore two key sites in the region: the Bahía Bustamante Portal and the Isla Leones Portal. Over two days, participants will be able to enjoy guided hikes along coastal and steppe trails, in full contact with the local biodiversity.

The experience begins on Saturday the 12th at the Bahía Bustamante Portal with the “Between Marshes” journey, a low-difficulty 15-kilometer route along a coastal circuit where the sea merges with the steppe. The marshes, estuaries, and beaches will be the backdrop for this hike, which will include an outdoor picnic and a final talk about the Blue Patagonia Reserve.

On Sunday the 13th, it will be the turn of the Isla Leones Portal. Starting from Camping Bahía Arredondo, an 8-kilometer trail through the ravine will provide panoramic views of the islands and the sea. The day will end at the beach, with a contemplative closure in this natural corner still unexplored.

### Guided by women who know Patagonia and protect its territory
Two local guides will be in charge of the accompaniment and interpretation of the surroundings: Norma Paillalaf and Graciela Fernández, references in regional hiking.

Norma, 37, settled in Camarones over a decade ago and has developed a strong connection with the environment. A physical education teacher, she found in trekking a way of life. “It’s a pride that people come to know these landscapes and understand the importance of protecting them,” she expressed.

Graciela, 60, arrived from Buenos Aires 15 years ago. She is part of the first group of “Site Guides” trained in the province and combines her experience with a deep knowledge of the local flora, fauna, and history. “From the highest points of the trail, the view of the islands is impressive. And if you’re lucky, you can even spot whales or orcas,” she pointed out.

### An invitation to reconnect with nature
The Hiking Encounter proposes a complete immersion in the wildest Patagonia, with flamingos, choiques, and guanacos as part of the landscape. It is also an opportunity to value natural spaces that were inaccessible for years. Currently, with the gates open, the Blue Patagonia trails are offered as a call to respect, enjoy, and conserve.

Participation is free, but prior registration is required. A unique experience for those who seek to walk to the rhythm of the wind and rediscover the untouched magic of the Chubut coast.

### Rada Tilly: an encounter with the sea and environmental awareness
Last weekend, the town of Rada Tilly in Chubut was the setting for a day dedicated to connecting with the ocean and environmental awareness.

Under the warm Patagonian sun and with the breath of whales in the background, more than 35 people gathered to participate in talks and activities organized by various actors committed to marine conservation, such as the Sin Azul No Hay Verde Foundation and the Que Fluya! Stand Up Paddle and Surf School. Rada Tilly’s mayor, Mariel Peralta, was also part of the event.

The day began with a talk by Wilmer Lunelli, from Que Fluya!, who also led a Stand Up Paddle baptism for beginners. Lunelli highlighted the importance of bringing the community closer to the sea from a safe approach, promoting respect for nature.
