The Government of **Mendoza** announced the opening of the **“Laguna del Diamante”** natural reserve for this [summer season 2025](https://noticiasambientales.com/turismo/explora-san-luis-historia-y-naturaleza-en-el-encantador-pueblo-del-verano-2025/).

The inauguration took place on January 8, and on that day, entry to the reserve was free. Subsequently, visitors will need to purchase their **tickets through the online booking system**.

Nuria Ojeda, Deputy Secretary of Environment, mentioned that “during the first day, visitors will be able to enter for free and then they can purchase tickets through the online booking system on the website of the **Directorate of Protected Areas**”.

The opening follows coordinated work of different areas of the province, including Provincial Roads, the Environmental Deputy Secretary, and the Directorate of Protected Areas.

## Improvements in Laguna del Diamante’s Accessibility

From Provincial Roads, it was assured that works were carried out to **improve the accessibility of the circuit**, after 25 days of work in the area. Osvaldo Romagnoli, head of the Provincial Roads Directorate, explained:

“The Laguna del Diamante circuit is a great challenge, because we face **large ice formations** that need to be crossed, sections of the road that we must rebuild, and large rocks that need to be cleared”.

## The allure of Laguna del Diamante

The **“Laguna del Diamante”** natural reserve, located approximately 220 kilometers from the city of Mendoza, in the San Carlos department, is one of the [most striking points to visit in the province](https://noticiasambientales.com/turismo/mendoza-y-sus-volcanes-una-aventura-turistica-inolvidable/).

The nearest town is Pareditas, in San Carlos, about 60 kilometers from Refugio Alvarado, the entrance to the reserve area. From that point, there are another 43 kilometers to the lagoon itself, along a dirt road, with **maximum altitudes between 3,500 and 3,750 meters** above sea level.

## How to get there

You can reach it by private vehicle (high clearance or 4×4) or by hiring an excursion. Specifically, it is a body of water located between the mountains of the **Andes Cordillera**, at 3,300 meters above sea level and at the foot of the **Maipo volcano**, one of the most prominent mountains for adventure tourism in Mendoza.
