San Miguel de Tucumán turns solid waste into bricks

With an investment of 15 million dollars, the urban solid waste treatment (RSU) in the Greater San Miguel de Tucumán could take a revolutionary turn.

A project presented by the company Moviser SRL proposes the possibility of reducing the 1,200 tons of garbage collected daily in the metropolitan area, transforming 300 of them into reusable powder to make bricks.

Transformation of solid waste into construction materials

In a report submitted to the Metropolitan Consortium for RSU Management, chaired by María Eugenia Andrade, Moviser SRL proposed a model that, in its first stage, will process 300 tons of non-recoverable waste daily at the San Felipe plant.

These wastes would be broken down in a controlled environment, turning into powder suitable for the production of construction materials, such as bricks.

The plan includes, in a second stage, the capture and treatment of gases and vapors generated during the process. These would be converted into compressed natural gas, a reusable energy source that could be commercialized, generating an additional economic benefit.

Environmental and economic advantages of the project

The proposed treatment has a cost of 50 dollars per ton, an increase compared to the current price of 42.15 dollars per processed ton. However, Moviser SRL assures that the new system will not entail additional costs for the Consortium and highlights the environmental, economic, and operational advantages it will offer.

Among the outstanding benefits, it is expected to significantly reduce soil pollution, water, and air, helping to prevent diseases related to improper waste management. In addition, by reducing the volume of garbage, the useful life of the final disposal site in Overo Pozo will be extended.

The project also promotes energy efficiency by generating energy from waste, and sustainability by reusing and recycling materials. The commercialization of the resulting products, such as bricks and compressed gas, adds an economic incentive to the plan.

A sustainable management model

Moviser SRL has invited Consortium members to visit the processing plant to evaluate the system’s operation and address any doubts.

This advancement could position San Miguel de Tucumán as a regional model in sustainable waste management, addressing one of the most urgent challenges in urban areas.

The project, which combines technological innovation with environmental commitment, opens a new door towards a more efficient and sustainable management of urban waste in the Tucumán capital.
