This wave energy mechanism, which enables the generation of electricity through the movement of waves, will be deployed at the Mar del Plata Breakwater.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Services, acting through the Undersecretariat of Energy of the Province of Buenos Aires, has signed an agreement with representatives of the National Technological University (UTN) and the Buenos Aires Regional Energy Forum (FREBA). The purpose is to finance the creation and implementation of the first Argentine device on a real scale designed for the exploitation of wave energy.
This innovative technology, also referred to as wave energy, is based on using the movement of the waves to produce electricity and will be installed at the North Breakwater of the Port of Mar del Plata. This event constitutes a milestone for the industry and science in Argentina, as it merges applied research, technology transfer, and national production, thus consolidating the connection between the University, the State, and the private sector.
The specific agreement signed includes financing with resources allocated to Research and Development (R&D) that come from the Provincial Program of Incentives for the Generation of Renewable Distributed Energy (PROINGED). This program is jointly administered by the Undersecretariat of Energy and FREBA. PROINGED funds originate from the renewable tariff surcharge, which users pay in their electricity bills within the Province of Buenos Aires.
The signing of the agreement took place at the Buenos Aires Center for Renewable Energies and was attended by the Undersecretary of Energy, Gastón Ghioni; the president of FREBA, Fernando Pini; the General Secretary of the Forum, Gustavo Piuma Justo; the dean of the UTN Buenos Aires Regional, Guillermo Oliveto; and the coordinator of PROINGED, Ricardo Lospinnato.
From the government of the Province of Buenos Aires, it is considered priority to promote this kind of strategic projects in order to diversify the energy matrix and stimulate innovative technologies of national origin. At the same time, progress is being made in the generation of knowledge and in the promotion of clean energies, positioning the province as a reference in the region regarding technological innovation and sustainability.
