Arraial do Cabo: how to visit the Caribbean paradise of Brazil that captivates Argentine tourism

Discover the secrets of Arraial do Cabo, the best beaches and essential tips to explore this destination of crystal-clear waters in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The coast of Brazil hosts a haven that, due to the hue of its waters and the whiteness of its sand, has earned a privileged place in the itinerary of international travelers.

This is Arraial do Cabo, the Brazilian Caribbean, a destination located in the Região dos Lagos that has become the favorite choice for Argentine tourists seeking paradisiacal landscapes without leaving the South American continent.

Unlike other resorts in the area, Arraial do Cabo stands out for an oceanographic phenomenon known as “upwelling“. This process involves the rise of deep, cold waters, rich in nutrients, which gives the sea an exceptional transparency and a vibrant turquoise color, ideal for snorkeling and diving.

This feature, combined with its preserved natural environment, positions the locality as a reference point for those seeking a high-level beach experience.

Iconic beaches and access

One of the main attractions of Arraial do Cabo, the Brazilian Caribbean, is the Praia do Farol. Often considered one of the most beautiful in all of Brazil, its access is strictly regulated by the Marina, allowing only arrival by authorized boats and with a limited stay time to ensure its conservation.

Another must-stop is the Prainhas do Pontal do Atalaia. This site is famous for its iconic 255-step wooden staircase that descends the cliff, offering one of the most photographed panoramas in the region.

At the foot of the staircase, visitors find calm and transparent waters inviting relaxation. Meanwhile, Praia do Forno offers a different alternative: access is via a medium-intensity trail or by water taxis, leading to a cove surrounded by lush vegetation.

Traveler recommendations

To make the most of the visit, tourism experts suggest hiring the traditional boat excursions departing from the Forno Port (Praia dos Anjos). These tours usually last around four hours and allow you to see the most remote and scenic spots in a single day.

Given its proximity to cities like Búzios (25 km away) and Cabo Frio (12 km away), many tourists choose to stay in these localities and make daily visits to Arraial do Cabo.

However, staying overnight in the same town allows you to enjoy the sunsets at Pontal do Atalaia, a natural spectacle that gathers hundreds of people every evening.

Regarding logistics, Arraial do Cabo is located approximately 160 kilometers from the city of Rio de Janeiro. The transfer can be made by rental vehicles, private transfers, or regular bus services that connect the Carioca capital with the Região dos Lagos, facilitating the arrival of visitors throughout the year.
