The government of the Province of Buenos Aires created the Bonaerense Tourism Quality Program, an initiative aimed at improving the quality of services and tourist destinations throughout the provincial territory. The measure was made official through Resolution 94/2026 published in the Official Gazette and signed by Minister Augusto Costa.
The program is under the Ministry of Production, Science and Technological Innovation of the Province of Buenos Aires and aims to strengthen tourism activity as a regional economic engine.
Additionally, it seeks to promote quality standards that improve visitor experiences and promote more responsible tourism development.
The implementation will be carried out by the Subsecretariat of Tourism of the Province of Buenos Aires, which will develop the necessary regulations to launch the system.

A system to organize and improve tourism activity
The new program will focus on the implementation of the General Tourism Quality System, known as SICALTUR. This system will function as an organizing framework for the different initiatives related to tourism in the province.
The goal is to strengthen the current tourism offer and also enhance destinations with development potential. The strategy considers the territorial diversity of the 135 municipalities that make up the province.
In this context, each region will be able to adapt the tourism quality tools to its natural, cultural, and productive characteristics.
Furthermore, the program includes the creation of evaluation mechanisms to measure the compliance with the established standards.
Training and recognition for the tourism sector
The program also aims to promote the professionalization of the Buenos Aires tourism sector. To this end, training sessions will be promoted for workers, entrepreneurs, and companies involved in the activity.
The training of human capital is considered a key factor to improve the competitiveness of tourist destinations.
Additionally, the system provides for the award of badges and recognitions to establishments that meet the quality standards.
These recognitions will have a limited validity period and must be renewed periodically. This seeks to encourage continuous improvement within the provincial tourism industry.

The environmental and economic advantages of quality tourism
The development of tourism quality programs can generate multiple environmental and social benefits. Firstly, it promotes responsible tourism practices that reduce the impact on local ecosystems.
It also encourages tourism providers to adopt sustainability criteria in the use of natural resources. These practices include efficient water and energy management, waste reduction, and the conservation of natural landscapes.
Moreover, well-planned tourism contributes to protecting the natural and cultural heritage of each region. At the same time, it strengthens local economies by creating jobs and opportunities for small communities.
For this reason, tourism quality systems often become key tools for balancing economic growth and environmental preservation.
Tourism as a strategic engine of development
The creation of the program is framed by the Provincial Tourism Law 14.209. This regulation declares tourism as a strategic activity for the economic and social development of the Buenos Aires territory.
Through the new system, the government seeks to consolidate public policies aimed at improving the competitiveness of destinations.
It also aims to strengthen the tourism identity of the different regions of the province. In this scenario, the quality of services and environmental sustainability emerge as central pillars for the growth of tourism in the coming years.
The challenge will be to transform this strategy into a network of destinations capable of attracting visitors without compromising the natural wealth that distinguishes the province.
