In a significant milestone for the Argentine nuclear industry, Nucleoeléctrica Argentina has made its first international export of components designed for CANDU nuclear reactors, similar to those used in the Embalse Nuclear Power Plant.
Export of Components for CANDU Reactors
This advancement was achieved through an agreement with Candu Energy Inc., part of AtkinsRéalis Company, one of the leading companies in the design of nuclear power plants of this type. The transaction included the delivery of shield plugs with flow restrictors (FROSP), which are essential for improving operational and safety conditions in the fuel channels of operating CANDU reactors.
The president of Nucleoeléctrica, Juan Martín Campos, commented on the importance of this export, indicating that it reflects Argentina’s potential to offer high value-added nuclear knowledge and solutions internationally. “The world is refocusing its attention on nuclear energy, and Argentina is ready to be a relevant player in this global scenario,” stated Campos.
Additionally, the development of these components was made possible thanks to collaboration with CONUAR and the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), highlighting the joint effort of the public and private sectors in advancing nuclear technology.
In a global context where energy demand continues to rise, and nuclear energy is regaining importance, Argentina is promoting projects for the commercialization of its nuclear services and engineering. This effort aims to position the country as a key provider of technological solutions for international nuclear power plants.
Campos emphasized that the accumulated experience in operating the Atucha I, Atucha II, and Embalse plants, along with the locally developed technological innovation, enables Argentina to offer competitive nuclear services and solutions in the global market.
