In the context of the increase in illegal deforestation in Chaco, the provincial justice system requested the detention of the forestry businessman Alessio Roberto Nardelli.
This is for violating a precautionary measure that prohibited him from advancing with the activity. According to the prosecutor, this is due to five acts of “judicial disobedience” in which he carried out deforestation activities without the proper authorization.
#### Illegal deforestation in Chaco: order to detain a significant forestry businessman
The federal prosecutor of Resistencia, Patricio Sabadini, requested on Thursday to the Federal Court No. 1 the detention and interrogation of the 59-year-old forestry businessman Nardelli.
This is for violating the precautionary measure that suspends deforestation in the province of Chaco.
The request is based on five acts of judicial disobedience in which the businessman carried out deforestation activities without the proper authorization, despite the prohibition in effect since August 2024.
According to the Prosecutor’s report, the first act occurred on February 21st, when the National Gendarmerie found that Nardelli was carrying out deforestation tasks on a property located near Tres Isletas.
On that occasion, a bulldozer was seized and the illegality of the deforestation was verified since it did not have the necessary permits.
Later, in the investigation, the Prosecutor’s Office discovered three additional acts prior to that date, which occurred on January 2nd and 6th, and February 18, 2025.
All these deforestations were considered illegal since they did not have the support of a Perimeter and Transversal Delineation Plan, the only authorized document to carry out this type of work in the region.
#### “Mafia of Deforestation”: the latest act for which Nardelli is accused
The latest act attributed to Nardelli refers to the transfer of the seized bulldozer to another field within the framework of the investigation, further complicating his situation.
In the document, Sabadini argued that the businessman’s actions not only contravene the law but also “impede” the progress of the investigation, justifying the detention measure.
The prosecutor emphasized that the requirements of Article 283 of the National Criminal Procedural Code are met to ensure Nardelli’s appearance before the Justice.
Additionally, he highlighted the seriousness of the situation, as the businessman’s actions directly affect the preservation of the environment and efforts to halt illegal deforestation in Chaco.
This case is part of the cause known as the “Mafia of Deforestation,” promoted by the Argentine Association of Environmental Lawyers, which seeks to stop the illegal advancement of deforestation in the region.
The precautionary measure, issued in August 2024, which Nardelli violated, prohibits deforestation in Chaco, aiming to protect native forests and preserve the biodiversity of the area.
