Chained in the snow: astonished her rescuers by revealing what she was protecting from the extreme cold

A frigid morning in February, the volunteers of the **Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL)** shelter, located in the **United States**, received an alert about an [abandoned dog](https://noticiasambientales.com/animales/la-historia-de-paris-la-nueva-integrante-perruna-de-la-casa-de-gran-hermano/) in the snow. With temperatures dropping to **10 degrees below zero**, they knew they couldn’t waste any time.

Upon arriving at the specified location, they found a touching scene: **a young pitbull chained to a doghouse**, moving around with obvious concern. There was no sign of an owner or any indication that someone lived there.

## A mother fighting the cold

The reason for the dog’s anxiety became clear when the rescuers approached: inside the doghouse, **a litter of puppies huddled together in a desperate attempt to stay warm** amidst the snow.

The volunteers understood that the dog had **survived the harsh weather** all this time and had given birth in that small improvised shelter. They acted immediately: **carefully took out the puppies and brought them into the vehicle**, knowing the mother could react in any way.

However, the pitbull, whom they named **Galentine**, seemed to understand that they were there to help. She **allowed them to remove the chain and, without hesitation, joined her pups in the car**.

During the journey to the shelter, Galentine approached the back seat to make sure her babies were okay. It was the first time the puppies experienced warmth, and one by one, they fell asleep during the trip.

## A fresh start for Galentine and her puppies

At the shelter, Galentine and her puppies — Serenade, Cherish, Flirt, Arrow, Amour, and Adore — were placed in a special space with **soft blankets, fresh water, and abundant food**.

The rescuers described Galentine as a **loving mother and an extremely affectionate dog**, who **enjoyed human company and constantly sought affection**.

As the weeks passed, her puppies grew strong and healthy. When they were ready for weaning, the **adoption process** began to find them a permanent home.

## The happy ending she deserved

While her puppies are still in foster homes, Galentine’s story had a happy ending sooner than expected. **A family came to the shelter looking for a pet and instantly fell in love with her**.

Now, the dog who once **fought against the cold and loneliness** enjoys a home where she **will never go hungry or feel fear again**.

“At just two years old, Galentine is still a baby,” wrote the volunteers on social media. “She will never be alone again. Now, she has nothing but a life full of love and respect ahead of her.”

## This NGO rescues animals from war: this is how they work in Gaza and the West Bank

The **Animal Heroes charity organization**, based in the **Netherlands**, seeks to alleviate animal suffering in Palestinian territories by supporting the local population caring for animals.

“The situation for animals is terrible because since October 7, many people (in the West Bank) have been out of work,” Esther Kef, the founder of the NGO, told Euronews.

This has also resulted in **an increase in violence against animals**. “We have seen several animals completely torn apart by people for no reason, just to express violence,” the volunteer said.

Animal Heroes **supports the Bethlehem Shelter, the only registered charity in the West Bank** founded by another animal lover, Diana Babish. However, from November 2023 to now, Kef assures that the deterioration has been noticeable.
