Rewilding Foundation celebrates and bets on the conservation of the jaguar in Corrientes
The Rewilding Foundation celebrates four years of coexistence with the jaguar in Corrientes, since its reintroduction on January 7, 2021, when Mariua and her cubs, Karaí and Porã, were the first jaguars to set foot on Corrientes soil after more than 70 years of extinction.
The foundation highlights that this achievement of reintroducing the jaguar in Corrientes is the result of more than 10 years of constant and collaborative work between individuals, civil organizations, institutions, and local, national, and international governments. They attribute this effort to an initial work by Tompkins Conservation, continued by the Rewilding Argentina Foundation with the collaboration of the Corrientes government, the National Parks Administration, and the support of the local community.
Currently, more than 35 jaguars are registered in the vast wetlands of Corrientes and some have ventured outside of the Iberá Park, being well received by the locals, who have reported their sightings with enthusiasm and have become their most fervent protectors.
The Rewilding Foundation emphasizes that the first reintroduction experience of the jaguar in Corrientes and in the world is progressing favorably. They point out that they continue to work to strengthen coexistence with this great feline and connect its populations.
