Surprising presence of a puma in Iguazú

A family from Misiones had a pleasant surprise when they spotted and recorded an adult puma about 200 meters from the entrance to Iguazú National Park, on National Route 101.

The encounter took place as they were returning from the Waterfalls. It was already dark, and the car lights allowed them to see the animal from a distance, eating grass, as is typical of felines.

In the shared video, the presence of the puma can be seen walking calmly between the roadside and the thickets of the area.

The images show the full size of a large feline and emphasize the importance of driving at a low speed in the area.

The importance of the presence of pumas in Misiones

The puma is one of the most imposing felines on the continent and can weigh up to 120 kilograms. It is distinguished by its slender body, broad head with rounded ears, and a long tail. It is a versatile predator, capable of inhabiting everything from jungles and forests to prairies and desert areas, adapting to different climates and altitudes, from sea level to 4,500 meters high.

Known for its agility and stealth, the puma is an excellent runner and jumper, as well as possessing remarkable swimming skills. Its presence in Iguazú National Park highlights the importance of conserving ecosystems and protecting wildlife in the region.

Park authorities reiterated the need to respect speed limits on roads that cross protected areas (60 km/h on main roads and 40 km/h on internal roads) to prevent wildlife collisions and contribute to the preservation of native species.
