The NGOs **Conciencia Animal Entre Ríos** and the Center for the Study and Defense of Wild Birds (Ceydas) requested the Federal Justice to intervene in the possible commission of the crimes of illegal possession and animal abuse of **wild species**, categorized as threatened by a hotel that exhibits the **animals in cages**.

Complaint and urgent measures

According to both entities, at a resort located on the side of National Route 12, at the height of **Gualeguay**, “a hyacinth macaw or **blue macaw**, categorized as vulnerable worldwide; a **red macaw** or green-winged; a **blue and yellow macaw**; a **Chaco parrot** and two **toco toucans** are exhibited, which at first glance can be seen that they do not have the mandatory identification rings according to the provincial and national regulations that protect them”.

Through the filed criminal complaint, they pointed out that “the birds are exposed to diseases and with an inadequate diet” and, as urgent measures, they requested the authorities “to raid the place, seize the animals, and transfer them to a recovery center“.

Threatened wild species in cages

The entities mentioned that the specimens are of **species that are “threatened”** and, therefore, “included in protective criteria in the appendices of threatened and endangered species”, in a context where “they suffer stress, anguish, and terror being in tiny cages, in a completely artificial environment and exposed to countless spectators who disturb their tranquility and threaten their **psycho-physical integrity**”.

Protection of wild animals

As a result of this, the NGOs request the federal judge “the **protection of non-human animals**”, therefore, they request “urgent measures to at least raid and seize the confinement place, establish the conservation status of the specimens, seize them, and proceed to their **provisional protection in a shelter** until a way to reintegrate them can be found”.
