In Argentina, 97% of dog and cat owners prefer adoption over buying.

A survey conducted by the research company Voices! in Argentina showed a remarkable increase in pet adoption, especially among women and young adults. This trend reached 97% in households with domestic animals in 2023. Most people prefer to adopt animals rather than buy them, strengthening the bond between them over time.

The research, carried out in 2023, revealed that 8 out of 10 men and women live with pets in their homes. Since the first survey in 2018, the presence of pets has significantly increased, rising from 60% to 70% between 2018 and 2020, and reaching 79% in 2023. These data reflect the deep commitment of citizens to their animals.

Dogs and cats: a harmonious coexistence

The study showed that 84% of respondents own dogs, while 55% have cats, demonstrating a growth from 40% to 55% in cat ownership over six years. Another relevant finding was the debunking of the myth that dogs and cats cannot live together, as in 42% of households they coexist harmoniously.

Pet adoption experienced significant growth: 97% of cat owners and 90% of dog owners prefer to adopt their four-legged companions rather than buy them. This data surpasses measurements from previous years by the research entity.
