The provinces of Buenos Aires and Río Negro have defined the guidelines for the 2025 hunting season, establishing specific dates, quotas, and conditions for both major and minor hunting, with the aim of regulating hunting activities under legal and environmental control criteria.

In Buenos Aires, the provincial Flora and Fauna Directorate, through Disposition 34/2025, authorized the major hunting season for species such as axis deer, antelope, fallow deer, red deer, and wild goat between March 10 and December 31. This practice will be allowed without a limit on pieces, as long as firearms with authorized possession, transport, and carrying are used in accordance with National Law No. 20,429 on Firearms and Explosives. It can only be carried out in properly registered hunting grounds. The regulation also includes the use of bows and arrows but excludes the use of pre-compressed air (PCP) weapons.

Regarding minor hunting in the Buenos Aires territory, as of the writing of this report, official dates had not yet been defined, as the survey of areas and quotas is still ongoing. However, in previous years, the season generally started on May 1.

In the province of Río Negro, the Subsecretariat of Wildlife, through Resolution 8/DFS-2025, regulated the modalities of major hunting, minor hunting, and boar hunting with dogs. For species such as pigeon and hare, the season will run from May 1 to July 31. Meanwhile, hunting will be allowed until February 15, 2026, for quail, rabbit, mink, boar, fallow deer, and red deer.

What will happen with invasive exotic species?

In the case of invasive exotic species such as the Californian quail, wild rabbit, and American mink, they can be hunted throughout the year without a quota limit. For species like the European wild boar, fallow deer, and red deer, quotas of 3, 2, and 2 specimens per hunter and per outing, respectively, have been established.

For those practicing boar hunting with a pack of hounds, a group of 3 to 8 dogs per field and per day is allowed, with a maximum of three pieces per hunter and per day, from March 10 to September 30. The animals used must have a national certificate of rabies vaccination (Law 22,953) and an anti-parasitic certificate signed by a veterinary professional. Additionally, a two-year period has been established for dogs to have an identification microchip, in accordance with Provincial Law S.4043. Hunters must be officially registered and must register this modality in the Provincial Register of Sports Hunters of Boar with Dogs.

Both regulations aim to harmonize the development of the activity with a regulatory framework that allows for its control, promoting more responsible practices within the realm of sports hunting.

Regulating the sports hunting of invasive exotic species in Corrientes

The Natural Resources Directorate of Corrientes established new provisions for the sports hunting of wild boar (Sus scrofa) and axis deer (Axis axis), both species considered invasive and harmful to the ecosystem and agricultural production.

Disposition No. 248 responds to the need to update the criteria for hunting permits and authorization, addressing the demands of sports hunters and the concerns of rural producers affected by the proliferation of these species.

The new regulations aim to facilitate the population control of these animals, allowing hunters to increase the number of specimens hunted. Hunting will be permitted from Monday to Sunday, except in protected areas, parks, and reserves. As for restrictions, the quota for axis deer is eliminated, meaning that hunters can hunt without a limit on quantity or sex differentiation. Regarding wild boar, the regulations maintain the elimination of any type of restriction on its hunting.
