More and more countries are joining the trend of electric cars, as is the case of Norway. In this sense, the residential suburb of Oslo, Baerum, is a clear example of this, as half of the houses have one of these cars.
Bård Gundersen, a resident of this Norwegian municipality with one of the highest proportions of electric vehicles (43%), mentioned that his transition from conventional cars to these environmentally friendly cars took place in 2016. Additionally, he stated that he is already on his second vehicle of this type.
“It was much cheaper to buy a car like this than a traditional one, almost half the price because I wanted an SUV,” said the entrepreneur, owner of a dazzling BMW iX. Although Norway is one of the largest importers of hydrocarbons, starting next year, it will only allow the sale of new “zero emissions” models.
In fact, this is one of the world’s most ambitious goals. The European Union, of which Norway is a part, announced that it will not allow the sale of new polluting vehicles until 2035.

What is the function of electric cars?
Electric vehicles operate through the use of one or more electric motors, which store electricity in their rechargeable batteries and convert it into kinetic energy. This operation is what sets them apart from traditional, internal combustion cars, which are started by burning fuels.
These cars allow for a reduction in the consumption of fossil fuels and emissions in the transportation sector, thanks to their greater energy efficiency of their technology and their ability to recharge through the electrical grid.

The benefits of electric cars
- Less pollution: these vehicles do not emit polluting gases, making them a more ecological option.
- Lower energy consumption: these motors have an energy efficiency of between 90-95%, meaning they consume less energy than internal combustion engines, which have an efficiency of between 20-35%.
- Less maintenance: Electric cars have fewer moving parts than combustion ones, requiring less maintenance and having lower repair costs.
- Less noise: these vehicles are quieter than traditional ones.
- Fiscal advantages: besides being environmentally friendly, they also have fiscal benefits.
- More relaxed driving experience: these cars are smoother than those using internal combustion, providing dynamic acceleration without noise or vibrations.
- Pedestrian alert system: they allow warning other road users when traveling at less than 30 km/h.
