Bulldozer seized on a field in Tres Isletas after raid for illegal deforestation

The Federal Court No. 1 of Resistencia, in the province of **Chaco**, ordered the **raid of a plot of land** in the area of Tres Isletas, as well as the **seizure of a bulldozer** that, allegedly, would have violated the current precautionary measure that prohibits **deforestation** for a period of six months. The operation took place on the night of Friday, February 21.

The resolution was issued at the request of the federal prosecutor Patricio Sabadini, who took action after a team of the National Gendarmerie verified the carrying out of **logging and deforestation activities** on a property near Tres Isletas. The land belongs to the forestry entrepreneur Roberto Nardelli, former president of the Chamber of Exporters of **Charcoal from Chaco**.

## Investigation and seizure of machinery after the deforestation raid
Judge Ricardo Mianovich, who is currently acting as the substitute for Federal Court No. 1, based the measure on the existence of significant evidence of a **possible criminal act** that would breach the previously issued precautionary measure. According to the judge, the decision to confiscate the bulldozer is supported by its alleged direct connection with the **investigated activities**.

Mianovich emphasized that the seized equipment “would have a close relationship with the behaviors being investigated in the hypothesis of the crime under investigation.” Likewise, he described the action as “reasonable, proportionate, necessary, and suitable” for the development of the **judicial case**.

## Deforestation in the northern region of Argentina
During the first half of 2024, 59,557 hectares of native forest were deforested in the northern region of the country. This figure represents a loss of an area equivalent to 327 soccer fields per day. It is a 15 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023 (51,600 hectares).

The data comes from a survey conducted by **Greenpeace** through the comparison of **satellite images**. Between January and June, deforestation in **Chaco** reached 27,148 hectares, in **Santiago del Estero** 21,047, in **Formosa** 7,162 hectares, and in **Salta** it amounted to 4,200.
