Just 40 days away from the beginning of summer and a new tourism season, the news arrived that there are “ecological” beaches in Mar del Plata. It turns out that Obras Sanitarias (OSSE) confirmed that the city’s beaches meet demanding quality standards.
They have exceeded the bathing parameters established by provincial regulations, as well as European and United States international criteria.
Ecological beaches in Mar del Plata? What did OSSE say?
According to the organization, the Mar del Plata coast has an adequate level of sanitation, guaranteeing suitability for bathing along its entire length, due to a series of continuously implemented actions.
Obras Sanitarias stated in the report that “strategies to protect the marine ecosystem include constant monitoring of seawater, through sampling from Playa Franka in the north, to Waikiki in the south.”
They also emphasized the importance of coordination between the submarine outfall and the Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR), which contribute to the proper treatment of the waters.
Blue Flag for Mar del Plata
Due to the efforts made and the recorded sanitary indices, the Mar del Plata resort recently received the distinction called “Blue Flag” in a ceremony held in CABA.
This is awarded to resorts, yacht clubs, and tourist vessels in the country that meet strict criteria in areas such as environmental care, education, safety, and accessibility.
On behalf of OSSE, the Quality Manager, Ana Paula Comino, expressed gratitude.
“This recognition reflects years of effort dedicated to providing a safe environment for the community and for those who visit us. It fills us with great pride, but at the same time, it motivates us to continue promoting projects that make our city a model of environmental management,” she stated.
Along the Argentine coast, there are several resorts that have the Blue Flag, in addition to Mar del Plata. Among them are Parque Mar, Center Beach, Maui, Buenos Aires, Chicama and Hijos del Mar (from Miramar), Cozumel (from Cariló), and La Florida (from Rosario).
