In a joint meeting, the General Legislation and Natural Resources and Environment commissions of Entre Ríos addressed a bill proposed by Deputy Juan Manuel Rossi, which seeks to create a protected natural area in the form of a “multiple-use reserve” at Paseo del Bosque, a property located in the south of Paraná, near the Los Berros stream and the border with Oro Verde.

The project aims to preserve the native forest and ensure wildlife corridors.

Participation and consensus in the quest to create a protected area

The meeting included key representatives such as Pablo Aceñolaza, the Province’s General Director of Territorial Planning; Alejandro Casablanca, owner of Paseo del Bosque, and municipal officials like Eduardo Lorefice and Maximiliano Pérez Viecenz. During the meeting, the importance of reaching consensus among the Province, the Municipality, and the property owner was emphasized.

Deputy Rossi stressed the need to preserve green areas in modern cities and highlighted that protecting Paseo del Bosque would help create a green lung for the expanding region.

Conflict over the Buffer Zone

One of the main challenges discussed was the establishment of a protection zone or “buffer zone” around the protected natural area, as required by legislation. This has sparked a conflict with the municipality, which believes that this measure could affect its autonomy and the interests of residents due to urban development plans in the area.

The project, which aims to balance environmental conservation with urban growth, will continue to be debated in search of agreements that benefit all parties involved.

Protected Areas in Entre Ríos

Entre Ríos boasts 33 protected natural areas, many of which allow a coexistence between production and conservation. Among them, one of the most prominent is the El Palmar National Park.

Recognized as a Ramsar Site and an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA), the park preserves emblematic Butia yatay palm groves alongside areas of thorn forest, gallery forest, savannas, grasslands, riparian environments, and aquatic ecosystems.
