“The smoking ban extends to **all public spaces**, including the streets,” the text details.
In this sense, smoking tobacco is prohibited in public spaces, including the streets, unless they are **”isolated places”** where that distance of at least ten meters can be respected.
Smoking was already prohibited since 2021 in **public green spaces** (except when it was possible to respect the safety distance), in **taxi ranks, buses, children’s play areas**, and in **sports facilities**.
People who smoke, harm others, or violate the regulations will be **subject to fines** ranging from **40 to 240 euros** (approximately $21 to $246), according to the municipal government’s measure.
## How is Milan’s Air-Climate Plan

They have been gradually coming into force over time, and are part of the **Air-Climate Plan**, a document that aims to halve carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2050.
**Air pollution** causes around **[seven million deaths](https://noticiasambientales.com/medio-ambiente/la-contaminacion-en-el-aire-causa-7-millones-de-muerte-por-ano/)** worldwide, according to medical-scientific societies and the World Health Organization (**WHO**).
Thus, the WHO estimates that **nine out of ten people worldwide breathe polluted air**.
