A baby gorilla rescued at Istanbul airport: city zoo takes care of it.

One baby gorilla, the most powerful and valued monkey species by poachers due to its large size and strength, was intercepted at Istanbul airport by customs officials from the Ministry of Trade of Turkey. The animal did not have any documentation and was about to be taken illegally out of the country.

A crucial rescue

In the video shared by the Instagram account @tarimgovtr, the primate can be seen inside a wooden box with holes for air to enter, designed with just the right size for the animal. The responsible authorities of the natural parks of Turkey, Milli Parklar, have taken over its care.

Care and recovery

The staff at the Istanbul Zoo has started feeding the gorilla with a bottle, which the animal eagerly accepts. They report that the baby is in good condition and is improving day by day. The zoo team will continue to monitor its health to ensure a complete recovery.

A hopeful future

The zoo is also providing special care to other animals in similar situations, demonstrating its commitment to animal welfare and the fight against illegal wildlife trafficking.

Gorillas, a species in danger of extinction

The gorilla, a critically endangered species, and this baby gorilla would have undergone a long and tortuous journey, with an uncertain destiny and probably a life of captivity in deplorable conditions. However, thanks to the quick intervention of the Turkish authorities, the little primate was rescued and transferred to a specialized center for the recovery of wild animals.

The veterinarians at the Istanbul Zoo worked hard to stabilize the little primate, providing the necessary care for its recovery. The gorilla, who is not yet named, is bottle-fed and is under constant observation.

This case highlights the growing threat faced by endangered species due to the illegal trafficking of wild animals. Millions of animals are taken from their natural habitats each year to meet the demand of a lucrative black market.
