“Overwhelming and little rain”: this will be the summer weather of 2025 in Argentina

The National Meteorological Service (NMS) brought worrying news regarding the 2025 summer weather for Argentina. In the new quarterly report, it anticipates that there will be “overwhelming” days and rainfall will be scarce.

November and December 2024, as well as January 2025, the City of Buenos Aires (CABA) and the metropolitan area will experience hotter days than usual. This is the information provided by the organization for that region.

As seen on the map released, in a large part of the country, the temperature will be “SN”, meaning higher than normal. Although the season will be challenging in a large part of the country, some regions will have some relief.

In the Patagonia area, at least, the records will be closer to the usual. In the AMBA area, however, the red is more intense, as well as in the southeast of the province.

Another concerning point has to do with the rainfall, which will be scarce and below the usual in the eastern Buenos Aires region, including the Atlantic Coast and surrounding areas. Also in the central region of the country and Patagonia. In the North, precipitation patterns will be similar to historical ones.

Alpio Costa, a meteorologist and researcher at the Argentine Antarctic Institute (IAA/DNA), detailed regarding the report: “it is highly likely that we will face a dry and hot end of spring and beginning of summer”.

“Trees are the most important mechanism”

After the release of the report, which once again puts global warming at the center of attention, the Deputy Chief of Government of Buenos Aires Clara Muzzio, expressed herself through her social networks.

“The trees in the city are the most important mechanism we have to regulate extreme temperatures,” she stated alongside the image of the map.

“The new quarterly report from the National Meteorological Service anticipates that we are entering a very difficult summer, with high, persistent temperatures, above normal, and little rainfall,” emphasized the official.

In that sense, she pointed out one of the most important resources to address climate change.

“The trees in the city are the most important mechanism we have to regulate extreme temperatures. For example, on an overwhelming day of 35 degrees, the shade of a tree can be 5 to 10 degrees cooler, depending on humidity and wind,” Muzzio assured.

“With that approach, considering the fundamental importance of trees for the summer, 18,000 new trees were planted in the City in 2024, including 2000 more than the 1000 that were knocked down during the brutal storm last December,” she added.
