The National Environment Undersecretariat, led by Ana Lamas, is convening an event to establish the High-Level Interjurisdictional Committee (CIAN), a space to coordinate common policies on the conservation and sustainable management of the Paraná Delta.
The meeting will take place on Friday, November 8 in Rosario, as part of the Comprehensive and Strategic Plan for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of the Paraná Delta (PIECAS-DP).
Participation of Involved Jurisdictions
The activity will bring together representatives from the provinces of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, and Entre Ríos, and the municipalities of San Nicolás, Rosario, and Victoria. The CIAN seeks to consolidate a coordination space to address together the environmental challenges in the region and achieve a balance between conservation and sustainable development.
Confirmed Authorities
Among the confirmed authorities are the mayor of Rosario, Pablo Javkin; the mayor of Victoria, Isa Castagnino; the Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Santa Fe, Enrique Estévez; and the Secretary of Environment of Entre Ríos, Rosa Hojman. More attendees are expected to confirm their participation in the coming days due to the relevance of the event.
Importance of the Paraná Delta
The system plays an important role as a biodiversity reservoir providing food, shelter, and breeding sites for numerous fish species, some of them migratory, of high economic value and interest for commercial and sports fisheries, important as protein sources for human consumption and with a relevant role in the ecosystem.
