The circular economy in Argentina is gaining more ground. Companies are starting to see it as a key model to address socio-environmental challenges. It is a paradigm shift driven by the Global Compact that leads to rethinking production and consumption.
Therefore, in contrast to the linear economy, characterized by resource consumption and waste, this approach is based on reduction, reuse, and recycling, extending the products’ lifecycle through conscious design.
Circular economy in Argentina: the role of the Global Compact
This paradigm shift focuses on transforming waste into inputs for new productive processes. This contributes to a more equitable and sustainable social and economic development. A complete positive cycle.
Global Compact Argentina has played a central role in promoting this approach in the country. It is a United Nations initiative created in 2000, dedicated to promoting corporate social responsibility.
Participating companies commit to complying with 10 universal principles related to human rights, labor standards, the environment, and the fight against corruption.
In Argentina, this network has more than 900 companies distributed across more than 20 provinces. They also promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approved by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015.

How to join the Global Compact in Argentina
Among its most outstanding activities, Global Compact Argentina has developed an Executive Training Program in Circular Economy and SDGs, which already has four editions. This program is offered in the first semester of each year, and the fifth for 2025 is already being planned with an accessible fee to facilitate the access of more interested companies and individuals.
Additionally, throughout the year, the network organizes webinars addressing related topics for information purposes.
For companies that are already actively participating in the Global Compact, there is a specialized circular economy working group where theoretical knowledge is combined with a space for peer exchange. Currently, 19 companies are involved in this group.
Three recognized companies that have already implemented circular economy strategies in the country are Mastellone, BASF, and Provincia Vida Seguros.
What is the circular economy
The United Nations (UN) details that the circular economy is a “new model of production and consumption” that promotes sustainable growth over time, resource optimization, a reduction in raw material consumption, and the use of waste with recycling to give life to new products.
