Many people are unaware of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. It is a moment that seeks to increase accessibility to scientific and technological education, with the aim of improving the social position of women in the world.

Although progress has been evident, creating new opportunities for girls and women is not enough to increase their representation in the fields of science, technology, mathematics, and engineering.

UNESCO and its estimation of female participation in science

UNESCO has suggested that only 35% of students enrolled in science, technology, mathematics, and engineering fields are women. It is necessary to ensure gender balance to meet the sustainable development goals proposed by the UN, as well as to fulfill what is stipulated in the 2030 agenda so that no one is left behind.
