NASA reveals nighttime image of Buenos Aires from the ISS, captured by Expedition 73 on May 20, 2025

The NASA has once again captured the attention of Argentinians by sharing an incredible nighttime image of Buenos Aires from the International Space Station (ISS). Posted on its official Instagram account, this photograph offers an impressive view of the urban layout and nighttime glow of the Argentine capital.

Stunning Night View of Buenos Aires from the ISS

Taken by an astronaut from Expedition 73 on May 20, 2025, the image shows an extensive map of white, yellow, and orange lights representing the streets and avenues of Buenos Aires and its metropolitan area.

The most illuminated sectors are in the center and towards the north of the city, while the outskirts show less light density. This variation in lighting highlights the intense activity of one of the most populated metropolises in Latin America.

The publication reinforces the importance of the International Space Station, which has been a scientific laboratory in orbit for 25 years. Since November 2000, the ISS has been a cornerstone for scientific research and technological development, hosting crews from around the world.

Nighttime images from the ISS are valuable for studies of light pollution, urban growth, and energy consumption. These photographs provide a unique perspective on the distribution of human activity on Earth.

The image of Buenos Aires illustrates the population concentration and the economic, cultural, and political importance of this region. From more than 400 kilometers above, the city resembles a vast artificial constellation lighting up the night.

The NASA highlighted that research conducted on the ISS has advanced knowledge about the human body in space and developed technologies that benefit life on Earth. These studies are crucial for future missions to the Moon and Mars.
