On Sunday, April 6, the City of Buenos Aires experienced a day full of movement and environmental awareness with the 2025 edition of the Clean City Race, an event that brought together more than 10,000 people in the Historic Center to promote responsible habits regarding waste management.

Organized by the Ministry of Public Space and Urban Hygiene, the initiative combined physical activity, recreational activities, and environmental education, with the aim of reminding the importance of taking out household waste at the established time, between 7 and 9 pm, to maintain urban cleanliness.

From 5 pm, participants began to gather near Plaza de Mayo, where they received their kits with a backpack, t-shirt, and runner number. Registration was free, but with limited spots that quickly sold out every time they were made available.

At 7 pm sharp, the 5-kilometer circuit started, going through emblematic streets of downtown Buenos Aires, including Diagonal Norte, Leandro N. Alem, Carlos Pellegrini, Rivadavia, Bolívar, and Diagonal Sur. The event was hosted by journalist Sofía Martínez, who livened up the day while sharing messages about waste separation and proper use of containers.

A competition with several categories

The event had the participation of the Minister of Public Space and Urban Hygiene, Ignacio Baistrocchi, who also joined the race and highlighted the purpose of the initiative: to make visible the impact of small daily actions on the city’s hygiene.

The runners competed in different categories, including people with disabilities. The winners were awarded medals made from recycled materials, in line with the spirit of the event.

Additionally, at the end of the day, participants could search for their personalized photos on the fotorun.com.ar website by entering their bib number.

As in previous editions, the event featured a wide interactive proposal promoted by Ciudad Verde. Among the attractions were the Recyclothon (a wheel that activates a plastic bottle compactor as you run), virtual reality experiences on recycling, the Recicletas (bikes that turn PET bottles into threads while pedaling), a 4D simulator of the route of garbage trucks, and a replica of the urban monitoring center.

Surpassing the success of the previous edition

In the edition held on December 8 of last year, over 8,000 people participated in the 2024 Clean City Race, where not only sports were highlighted, but also various outdoor activities for the whole family and musical shows by renowned artists in the Historic Center of Buenos Aires. Just like this year, the event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of taking out the garbage at the right time, from 7 to 9 pm, to maintain a cleaner and more orderly city.

The registration for the race was free, with limited spots released gradually and sold out within minutes with each call. During the 2024 edition, the start took place at 8 pm, initiating the 5-kilometer circuit that went through emblematic streets and avenues such as Roque Sáenz Peña (Diagonal Norte), Leandro N. Alem, Carlos Pellegrini (next to 9 de Julio), Rivadavia, Bolívar, and Av. Julio Roca (Diagonal Sur).

On that occasion, activities began earlier. From noon, on Avenida de Mayo, neighbors and runners had the opportunity to get a close look at the equipment and machinery used every day to keep the city clean.
