During the recent **Assembly of the Argentine Network of Municipalities against Climate Change (RAMCC)**, held on April 4 and 5 at Espacio Arizu, the municipalities of **La Punta and Villa de Merlo, San Luis**, highlighted the environmental work carried out throughout 2024. The meeting brought together hundreds of mayors from across the country [with the aim of **sharing experiences**](https://noticiasambientales.com/turismo/arte-y-ciencia-en-un-sitio-ramsar-para-generar-conciencia-ambiental/), evaluating ongoing projects, presenting their **environmental progress**, and outlining new strategies to address **climate change**.
The San Luis delegation was led by the Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development, Federico Javier Cacace, and featured presentations from both cities in different thematic panels. The presentations addressed key areas such as **ecosystems and biodiversity, energy efficiency, renewable energies, technological development, circular economy**, international financing, and climate governance.
Representing Villa de Merlo, Mayor Leonardo Rodríguez and the Secretary of Environment, Sustainable Development, and Production, Francisco Leiva, presented in the circular economy panel. They detailed the progress of the “SEPARA” plan for separate waste collection, which is in its second phase and continues to expand throughout the locality. This program promotes **waste separation at the source** and is a cornerstone of the municipal environmental policy.
“The assembly was a valuable opportunity to reflect on the **achievements**, share learnings, and plan new joint actions. Local governments are key players in the transformation towards more resilient and sustainable communities,” expressed Rodríguez.

## **Environmental advances that stand out in the province**
Moreover, Merlo positioned itself as a pioneer in the province by implementing its Local Climate Action Plan, developed in collaboration with RAMCC technicians. This **carbon emissions assessment** allows for the design of specific mitigation policies and progress towards a low-carbon development model.
On the other hand, Mayor Luciano Ayala from La Punta participated in the panel on technological development and the environment, where he presented local initiatives related to environmental innovation. Ayala highlighted **the incorporation of new technologies and resources focused on environmental care**. “We were able to exchange ideas and strengthen collaboration with other municipalities. These spaces are key to building joint solutions to a challenge that concerns us all,” he stated.
The participation of both municipalities from San Luis reinforces the active role of the province in the **fight against climate change**, consolidating its commitment to a greener and more sustainable future, which has already shown its initial environmental progress.

## **Private natural reserves, protagonists at the Bioferia**
The Bioferia, the most important **sustainability event** in **Latin America**, is preparing to welcome the **Argentine Network of Private Natural Reserves**, which will showcase its work in conserving key ecosystems in the country. In this context, **Daniela Pardo Méndez**, a representative of the network and ambassador of the **La Siempre Viva** Natural Protected Area in San Luis, will actively participate to share her experience in **sustainable production models**.
The festival, which combines **environmental innovation with music**, gastronomy, inspiring talks, and the exhibition of ecological products, will feature a **dedicated space for private conservation**. Initiatives such as the **Akaguapy Reserve** and the **Margay Reserve** in Misiones, the **Pampa Azul Reserve** in Entre Ríos, and the **El Carrizal Ranch** in Buenos Aires will be presented there.
In her presentation, Daniela Pardo will highlight how **La Siempre Viva** integrates **regenerative livestock production with ecological restoration practices**, demonstrating that it is possible to develop productive models in harmony with the environment. “Participating in the Bioferia allows us to show the positive impact of private conservation and open the dialogue about new forms of sustainable production,” said Pardo.
